About Me

A special friend of mine got me started with blogging (check out her page at http://iheartfashion-mcmaris.blogspot.com/). I'm 28, I LOVE music in every sense. I know a little about 70's music, more about 80's music, even more about 90's and a lot about the new millenium. Check out what I have to say...

Jazmine Sullivan - Holding You Down

Her voice amazes me.  Check out this new single by Jazime Sullivan called "Holding You Down".  It's an old school remix.

"In 2010, her newest single Holding You Down (where she’s discovered her man cheating) indicates she really needs to find a new love, but her pain’s the benefit of us music lovers. Frequent production partner Missy Elliot puts together an audio collage made of various samples - the most prominent being the soft, acoustic, Latin-flavored guitarplay that Nas has also been noted for sampling - but it all blends together to form a beautiful mosaic that’s sure to please any and all who give it a listen. Holding You Down will be featured on Sullivan’s forthcoming sophomore album, which currently has no set release date or title."

Bottoms Up

Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj - "Bottoms up".  I know i'm a little late on this song, but if you haven't heard it, check it out.  Nicki Minaj's verse it pretty tight.  I'm feelings Trey's intro to the song ("cheaa").

This brings me to my next post.  R Kelly vs Trey Songz.  The new and the old, do Trey even compare to the legend Kells???  I'll let you decide

MIND FVCK

Check out MIA's new mixtape, "MIND FVCK".  It's a little unconventional but definately deserves a listen. Anything that's unconventional deserves an ear.  Who knows, it could be the next trend.

I like MIA a lot, her voice and sound is so unique.  She's good for hip-hop  "No one on the corner got a swagger like us".

Good Music, Poetry Rhymes, Artistry - Jay Electronica

"Jay Elect live from New Orleans" .  Jay Electronica is proof that good music is still made and sought after.  His simple but complex flow proves he here to stay and mix with the likes of great emcees like Mos Def and Talib Kweli.  Oh don't get me wrong, the artist is in a class of his own.  And this emncee can also produce!  Check out Nas' - "Queens Get the Money" produced by Jay off Nas' late album "Unititled (unofficially known as "Ni**er"). Jay gave Nas his CD in 2008 after meeting Nas thru his ex-wife Kelis and the rest was history. His officially released first single is, Exhibit A (Transformations) http://www.last.fm/music/Jay+Electronica/_/Exhibit+A+%28Transformations%29
Check it out by clicking the link, his song and lyric skills speak better then I ever could for the upcoming star.  Jay even jumps on a track with none other than Diddy called "The Ghost of Christopher Wallace".  Fire! The Ghost is what brought my attention to the rapper.  His style and street flow are perfect for the relaxing melodic and classy beat.

For a list of good Jay songs to download, check out my boy Kevin Nottingham's page.  He took the time to compile of list of downloads.  Thanks Mr Nottingham.

Jay put out a bunch of songs for a 15 minute mixtape called Style Wars EP (2004).

NEXT UP

All those hip hop lovers keep ya eyes on J Cole. The mutli talented artest can produce and right his own songs. His lyrics are crisp, with metaphores that make you say "hold up, rewind that", I think Cole is a shining star. Not to many artists these days can actually inspire. Influenced by artists like Jay-Z, the young rapper inspires all young emcees to step up their game. You might have heard him first on "A Star is Born" off Jay-Z's BluePrint 3 album. One of my favorite songs that still hasn't gotten old, is Miguel feat Cole "All I Want is You". If you haven't heard it, check it out. FIRE! Miguel's unique sound and Cole sharp lyrics, makes you wanna pick up the phone and call ya old girl lol. Keep ya eyes open for Roc Nation's first signee. "Cole World...."

The Recovery

HE'S BACK. EMINEM'S NEW ALBUM IS A SMASH COMPARED TO THE LAST TWO THAT WERE RELEASED (RELAPSE AND ENCORE). HIS METAPHORES ARE ONE OF THE REASONS WHAT MAKES HIM SO GREAT IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE INFLUENCES OF EMCEES LIKE LIL WAYNE HAVE SPRUNG THE PHENOMANOL RAPPER BACK INTO HIS OLD METAPHORICALLY MULTI SYLLABLLIC RHYMING SELF.. OFF DRUGS AND HIGH OFF LIFE. WE'LL SEE HOW LONG IT LASTS, BUT I'M HAPPY FOR EM. HE'S BEEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE'S SINCE INFINITE.
NOW YOU MAY THINK, "EM'S SOLD OLD, HE DID SONGS WITH RIHANNA AND PINK!!" BUT I BEG TO DIFFER. AS AN ARTISTS, YOU MAKE MUSIC, REGARDLESS OF WHO YOU'RE MAKING IT WITH, IT THE END RESULT IS GOOD MUSIC, THEN MORE POWER TO YOU!
"I'M SO HOT MY MUTHAFCKIN' FIRE TRUCK'S ON FIRE HOMEY"
ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITES ON THE ALBUM IS "TALKIN' TO MYSELF". EM'S ABILITY TO MAKE A PERSON SELF REFLECT IS ASTONISHING. HE HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO DO IN YEARS, BUT LIKE I JUST SAID, AND LIKE HE'S SAYS AT THE END OF THE SONG "I'M BACK!"
CHIKACHIKA SLIM SHADDDYY....
